Note: The cost of the yatra varies depending on nationality. Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) may bear more cost due to the need to stay extra days in Kathmandu for visa processing, whereas Indian nationals can complete their visa procedures in Delhi without arriving early. For Nepali pilgrims, the stated cost covers the journey beginning from Kathmandu. 

Private Trip

The private packages are for those who want to travel free from the constraints of larger groups. The rate for various packages differs according to the route and duration of the yatra.

Note: Since Nepalese pilgrims will not be included in the additional days spent in Kathmandu on the private trip, the cost will be lower for them.

The Kailash Yatra is open to any individuals who meet certain eligibility criteria, like age and health conditions, due to the physically demanding and high-altitude nature of the journey. The age criteria for the Indian pilgrims is a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 70 years for Indian pilgrims. However, the age criteria does not apply to Nepali and NRIs. Those with serious health conditions, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, or respiratory issues, are advised not to undertake the yatra.

The best time to visit Mount Kailash would be in the summer, that is, from May to September, when the temperatures can reach up to 15 °C in the daytime but can still drop to 0 °C or less during the night. As the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is not open all year round, the official season for the yatra is also from May to September. During the winter months, the region is closed to tourists due to safety reasons. Moreover, if you still want the best of the best months, you might want to consider going in the later part of the season, such as in September, as the yatra can be quite crowded during the peak months of June to August.

Following the yatra's conclusion in 2025, the official group departure dates for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 will be published in the latter months of 2025. However, travellers who are opting for a private tour can choose the dates according to their own schedule within the travel months.

There are three main ways to get to Kailash Mansarovar from Nepal. They are overland via the Kyirong border, by helicopter via Nepalgunj, and by flight via Lhasa.

KMY via Kyirong border: This is a good option if you are looking for a more adventurous trip. The journey from Kathmandu to Kailash is 10 days and you will need to cross the border between Nepal and China at Kyirong Border. 

KMY by helicopter via Nepalgunj: It is an expensive option, but also one of the fastest ways to get to Kailash Mansarovar. The helicopter tour takes about 1 day from Simikot in Nepal to Hilsa in Tibet. 

KMY via Lhasa with EBC: This route takes you through Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet, where both flight and drive options are available from Nepal. It also includes a visit to North Everest Base Camp (EBC) from the Tibet side.
